Halloween/Thanksgiving Blocks

I saw these blocks somewhere a few years ago and promptly ordered the vinyl to make them. 1 set of blocks for 2 holidays sounds perfect. I have quiet a few fall decorations and minimal places to put them so Celsey and I decided to make/give them for a gift.

The hardest part was figuring out what colors to paint the blocks. Making sure we didn't have the same color 2 letters in a row was hard. In case you decide to make them, here are the details.

You need 11 blocks total that are 3" wide if you want them the same size as these
-4 blocks that are 4.5" tall
-4 blocks that are 3.5 "tall
-3 blocks that are 3" tall

This is how the blocks are paired up

G I V E (heart) T H A N K S
T I R C  or       T R K A T E

you can obviously see the colors in the pictures, but just in case...
G-red
I-orange
V-yellow
E-Green
(heart)-orange

T-yellow
H-green
A-red
N-orange
K-yellow
S-red

This turned out to be a really fun gift. I ended up really loving the packaging.

halloween decor

halloween/fall is finally all up at my house. the weather feels a little less like summer and more like fall so it feels a little better having the house all ready. here's a tour of halloween/fall

there aren't a ton of places to put things so the pom pom garland is on the blinds and these other cute blocks are just on the kitchen table

halloween pom pom garland

Brianna invited me over the other night to make a Halloween pom pom garland. If you have a pom pom maker, these things are pretty easy, but they definitely take time. It actually took us 2 nights of pom pom making to get enough for the garlands. After they were all done, I tied them onto black yarn/floss. I used the width of my hand from thumb to pinky to measure (totally accurate measurements). I didn't go in a pattern which I like better. I love how it turned out, but I don't really love where it's hanging. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about that. Until I figure out something better, it's hanging on the kitchen blinds.

Halloween Crafting

celsey, her mom, aunt, and cousin, and i made these awesome halloween crafts last weekend. mucho thanks to her mom and aunt for doing the majority of the work. i basically have no where to put such cute things so on the kitchen table it is. i need to get a better picture of the alien with the earrings and the teeth. it will make you want to die of cuteness.

Easter Crafts

Celsey found these cute crafts so we got together with her family and got to work. Her mom cut all the wood in her very own wood shop (mega jealous). We used the cricut for the lettering and mod podged it all together. So very cute!

pom pom garland

Remember last week when I said I was obsessed with pom poms?!?  They're so cute and easy. I made this garland for Valentine's Day. I couldn't decide how to string the pom poms because I wanted to bring in all 3 colors-red, white, and pink. I used 3 pieces of each color and braided it together and hot glued the pom poms. I love how it turned out.

Valentine's Day decor

I love holidays. I especially love holiday decorations. I pulled out a few things I already have and added a few new things to decorate for Valentine's Day this year. I bought the materials for the heart wreath before, but due to the spending freeze I basically had to work with what I had on hand.

vase of conversation hearts, pom poms on sticks, kiss me blocks

heart wreath

This wreath is all over the internet. I've been dying to make it so I finally did. I love it!
I used the tutorial from the idea room and adapted it a little.

I didn't think about this until it was too late, but next time I MIGHT wrap it in red yarn or fabric so white doesn't show anywhere. More felt for more circles would be good too, but due to the spending freeze I had to work with what I already had.

Supplies
heart wreath (found at Hobby Lobby)
red felt (i bought 3/4 yard but wish i had a little more)
pins
circle pattern (i used the inside of a roll of masking tape and a wooden circle)
pen for tracing

1. trace circles (I used 2 sizes to give wreath a little more dimension)
2. cut out circles. i used gingher scissors and could cut 4 layers at a time
3. fold circle in half
4. fold in half again
5. pin base of folded circle into wreath
6. i started out super close together..probably too close together
7. cover wreath randomly using big and small circles
8. attach ribbon (i used hot pink) with a pin and hang

these are officially the crappiest cell phone pictures i have ever taken. i really need to stop being so lazy about my picture taking.

Halloween Crafting

Ashley showed me these pumpkins, and I practically died at the cuteness. She made them, and they turned out so cute. After I painted the pumpkins, it inspired me to get it together and get the rest of my Halloween decor up. My current residence isn't the most conducive to holiday decorating, but I put up a few crafty things to feel festive.

spray painted pumpkins and used craft paint to free hand embellish with circles and stripes

finished product on the porch

candy corn wreath from last year

i mod podged scrapbook paper on these letters a few years ago. they used to go on a shelf at my old place. since there's no shelf here, i tied ribbon and hung them on the door.

ashley's pumpkins...so cute. once i saw hers, i HAD to have make my own.

4th of July wreath

I went down to Vegas for summer break this week. Chelsea mentioned she might want to make a 4th of July wreath so I brought some stuff down. We found something similar to this on Pinterest (my new obsession) and got to work. The worst part of the whole thing was wrapping the wreath in yarn.

Chelsea's wreath
Chelsea's turned out so cute I had to make my own
I might be a little obsessed with bandana right now.

Supplies
wreath form (we used the straw kind because they're the cheapest)
white yarn
red and blue embroidery thread (to wrap around the wreath)
red, white, and blue pins (to stick the circles and stars in the wreath...instead of hot glue)
red, white, blue, and confederate flag bandanas (hobby lobby for $0.99 each)
various red, white, blue material
blue ribbon

How to
wrap wreath form in white yarn (if you do it thick you might only have to do 1 layer)
cut stars and circles from material and bandanas
wrap embroidery thread around wreath weaving back and forth as you go
arrange circles and stars on side of wreath and pin in place
hang wreath with ribbon and attach circle at top (pin into knot to hold in place)
so easy and so cute!

mylar flowers

Michelle and I decorated co-worker Mikael's desk for her birthday. We made a poster from butcher paper that needed a little something else. I love love love how these mylar flowers turned out and will definitely make them again. I used strips of mylar and rolled them like the fabric flowers. I used tape to hold them together. So cute!

gumdrop wreath

My friend Bonny posted this right before the holidays. I went out and immediately bought all the supplies. I LOVE the all white but it turns out you need to have Martha Stewart budget to pull it off. I finally finished my wreath last night. It's heavy as heck and I'm still not sure how I'm going to hang it.

Supplies:
toothpicks (lots)
Gumdrops (lots-can be purchased in bulk at winco)
Styrofoam wreath

How to:
Break toothpicks in half
Put toothpick in gumdrop
Push toothpicks with gumdrop in styrofoam in rows or more clamped together(mine turned out more uniform than I expected)

Craft Night Out

My friend Bonny hosted a Craft Night Out. The craft for the night was a candy corn wreath. It looked way more intense than it actually was. It ended up being really easy and a lot of fun. I haven't seen Bonny in over a year so it was really fun to catch up with her and meet a couple of her friends. I love how it turned out so much that I'm thinking of repeating the craft with spray painted beans for the winter holidays.

Holidays

I LOVE holidays...all holidays, and I LOVE holiday decorations. My current residence is not all that conducive to holiday decorating, but I pulled out a few things tonight. Makes me a little excited for the holidays to start.
